Churches Together Family Fun Day at the Fishponds Surbiton Hill Methodist will have a stall at this year’s Surbiton Churches Together Family Fun Day, Sunday, 8 August from 2.00pm-5.00pm. We will be featuring Traidcraft items. Contact Louise Mount or Norma Robertson for more information. ***** Church Family Away Day We are planning an Away Day for the whole Church family on Saturday 4 September at the Princess Alice Hospice Conference Centre, West End Lane, Esher, KT10 8NA. It will run from 9.30am for 10.00am to 3.30pm and is entitled ‘Shaping Our Church for Today’s World’. It’s an opportunity to come together for fun and fellowship and to consider our life and activities at Surbiton Hill. In the course of the day we shall look at the ways in which we are meeting the needs of our community and congregation and in small groups share thoughts and ideas for any developments. Please do all you can to be with us. Marina Golding and Jeannette Barwick are co-ordinating the day so please sign the list in the Church foyer or let them know as soon as possible if you can come. ***** Methodist Annual Conference Statement on Israel/Palestine Last month’s Annual Conference passed a resolution calling for an arms embargo against all sides of the Israel/Palestine conflict, a boycott on all products from Israeli settlements in the Palestinian territories, and a commitment for Methodists to be in prayerful dialogue with Jews and Muslims on this issue. There have inevitably been some misunderstandings about the report in the press and some very angry responses from sections of Judaism, including letters that have come to Bonni-Belle from local Jewish persons. The full report can be downloaded from www.methodistconference.org.uk/assets/downloads/confrep-14-justice-for-palestine-israel-170510.pdf. It is important that all Methodists be informed on this situation, whether or not each is in agreement with the full report. We will be looking for opportunities to explore this further in the coming months.
